The thing about writing...

See the thing about writing and blogs and diaries is, they are always a memory of where we've been. Who we were...what we thought was important - all captured in this fossilized space. And for someone that spends a good portion of her life hitting ctrl z; it's a bit terrifying.

And see the thing about writing is, it's a glaring reminder of your habits. Like how I use ellipsis way too much...or how my favorite writing filler is "that", or that my favorite thing to do is end a sentence in a prepositional phrase. I don't understand what everyone is afraid of.

But see the thing about writing is, it allows one to freely, openly, and unabashedly express oneself. There's no one there to interrupt, no one there to say you're wrong. No one judging you for the sentence you couldn't say or the thought you couldn't materialize. And no one interjecting with their own hangups, their own agendas. Just you and the pen.

But see the thing about writing is, there always has to be a start. That point at which looking back, I can shake my head and say, "I can't believe I used to be so..."

And see the thing about this post is, resisting the urge to edit. Ctrl z.
